Virginia Pine Christmas Tree
Choose & Cut

The Virginia Pine is a Southern favorite, known for its dense, bright green foliage and robust branches that can support even the heaviest of ornaments. With needles ranging from 1.5 to 3 inches in length, its branches are sturdy and have excellent needle retention. The Virginia Pine exudes a strong, long-lasting pine fragrance, making it perfect for those who love a classic Christmas scent. It's an ideal choice for those who appreciate a traditional tree that fills the room with holiday cheer. The Virginia Pine trees we grow are mostly sourced from the Oklahoma Forestry Department. We continue to try other seed sources but find that the pine trees from our own state continue to surpass all other states Pine trees. Virginia pine responds well to trimming. And, on Christmas tree plantations their foliage can become extremely dense. Virginia Pine has been the staple for the Christmas tree industry in the south since its inception. Due to the intense demand for planting stock with enhanced Christmas tree characteristics, two genetic improvement programs were initiated. Both were begun in the early 1980’s. One was a Texas Forest Service project and the other was based at Alabama A&M University. In both cases, the respective State Christmas tree associations were major contributors to the effort. This effort has continued in the Oklahoma grown Virginia Pine today. Our Oklahoma Christmas Tree Growers Association continues to work closely with the Oklahoma Forestry Department to continue to improve the quality of the Virginia Pine. After years of progeny tests and selective removal of trees from the seed orchards, growers have Virginia Pine seed sources specifically cultured for Christmas tree production.

Christmas Tree Care Guide
Christmas Tree Care Guide
1. Choose the Perfect Spot
- Select a cool area away from direct heat sources like heaters, fireplaces, and direct sunlight.
- Trees dry out quickly in warm conditions, which can shorten their lifespan.
2. Make a Fresh Cut
- When you get home, cut about 1/2 to 1 inch off the bottom of the trunk before placing it in water. This helps the tree absorb water more effectively, as the fresh cut removes any dried sap that may block water uptake.
- Place the tree in water within 1-2 hours of making this cut.
3. Use a Proper Tree Stand
- Use a stand that holds at least a gallon of water, ensuring it fits the tree’s trunk snugly. An appropriate stand reduces tipping risk and allows the tree to draw water easily.
4. Water, Water, Water!
- Trees are very thirsty, especially in the first week. Check the water level daily to ensure it doesn’t fall below the tree’s base. A tree may consume up to a gallon a day initially.
- Avoid letting the water level drop below the trunk base, as this may cause the tree to seal up and stop absorbing water.
5. Monitor the Tree’s Health
- Keep an eye on the needles. If they start to drop or feel brittle, check your watering routine and adjust if needed.
- If the tree seems to dry out faster than expected, try to reduce the temperature in the room.
6. Safety First
- Inspect light strings and decorations to ensure there are no frayed wires or loose connections, as these can be a fire hazard.
With these tips, you’ll enjoy a vibrant, healthy Christmas tree throughout the season!
